A pizzeria with the taste of Italy and furniture from Moravia

Forty-five days were enough to turn a restaurant in the centre of Semily into the celebrated Pizzeria Da Giorgio. The new place draws guests not only with the irresistible smell from the pizza oven but with an interior that breathes Mediterranean ease. The result is a welcoming place where you order another espresso just to stay a little longer. No small part of that atmosphere is down to our joiners from Rousínov, who made and installed the furniture and interior elements for Woodever.

The brief: the relaxed feel of an Italian trattoria

The client, who already runs several restaurants, was clear: create a space where guests feel they are on holiday in sunny Italy, whatever the Czech weather is doing outside. The interior had to be an informal placea family with children, colleagues at lunch or friends at dinner would walk into without hesitation.

„The design mirrors the main theme of this family restaurant: southern cooking with an emphasis on grilling, fish and minced meats, with its own pizza oven. The interior does not hide the origins of the owners and creates a warm Mediterranean atmosphere. Blue shutters and the patterned ceramics of picturesque harbours inspired a playful interior full of references to the sunny south.

The combination of blue and pale travertine is joined by the soft colour of driftwood and the copper of pans and pots, used in various furniture and lighting details. Bold graphics of sea creatures accompany you through the space. The restaurant offers many nooks for different groups of guests, from large gatherings of friends to intimate corners for dinner by candlelight.“ says David Marek of the architectural practice DL studio, co-author of the interior design.

To make it all fit in taste as well as style, a pizzeria in the heart of a Czech town does not forget its local guests: alongside the Italian specialities they pour Czech beer. Italian lightness and Czech hospitality work together perfectly naturally.

The interior was designed at dl studio under architect David Marek, who brought the lightness of a southern style together with an emphasis on simplicity and function. Wood, a predominantly blue-and-white palette, restrained lines and graphics with marine motifs give the place an effortless elegance.

The challenge? A punishing deadline

The old restaurant closed on 16 February and the new one was to welcome guests on 1 April. Everything had to happen in that time – strip-out, building works, the complete fit-out. The programme was unforgiving and time was counted in minutes.

Everything had to come together to almost the exact hour. It was a textbook piece of teamwork between the workshop, the fitters on site and the other trades. Watching every detail and the programme was genuinely nerve-racking – but the result is worth it, says says project manager Veronika Slabá, who was responsible for the whole build for Woodever.

Within a few weeks the team made and installed upholstered booths, fitted benches, partitions, dining tables, cabinets, open shelving and the timber parts of the bar counter with its beer taps. Everything was made to measure for the space and delivered on time, without compromise.

Precise production and installation, to the hour

The furniture was made in our joinery workshop in Rousínov, running at full tilt from the start. Every piece had its exact place in the space and on the timeline. It was not only about speed: the emphasis stayed on precise craftsmanship, which goes without saying at Woodever and is why architects and clients come to us with confidence.

On site the installation ran in close sequence with the other trades – electricians, floor layers, painters. Careful planning and a well-drilled team kept it all smooth, from the first screw to the final clean.

When the doors of the new pizzeria opened on 1 April, everything was exactly as the owner had wanted. The interior breathes Mediterranean lightness, the warmth of natural materials and a relaxed atmosphere that invites you to sit down.

The quality of the work, the attitude of the Woodever people, their reliability and helpfulness – all of it exceeded my expectations. And above all, they managed to deliver the whole interior on time despite an extremely tight programme. I was very pleased with the people from Woodever,“ says Simon Zeqiri, owner of the pizzeria.

Planning something similar?

In a matter of weeks we helped create a place where guests value not only the food but the surroundings they enjoy being in. Exactly as the client imagined it. Planning something similar? Get in touch – we will gladly help with your project too.
